Marissa...5 days old!

Here she is smiling while she was asleep. She kept smiling so she must have been having a good dream!
I just love having a girl to dress up!
She loves to suck on her hands, especially when she is getting hungry.
Awake and ready to party!

A new member of the family...

As many of you know, we have been on the waiting list to adopt a baby for a couple of months now. We got a call two weeks ago telling us that we got picked by a mom in Ohio and she was due Feb 22nd! So long story short, we went to Ohio and now we have a beautiful baby girl! Here are her stats:

Marissa Kelis
Born February 22, 2008 at 8:15am
5lbs 13 oz, 18 inches long
In her carseat, leaving the hospital
First pictures, taken at the hospital

Holding my new baby girl! Look at all that hair!

Rolling around in my diaper.
She is such a good baby and so quiet compared to Xander! She just squeaks and grunts, whereas Xander screamed really loud right from the start! But anyway, we love her lots and can't wait to bring her home to Idaho!

Xander wants to be...

The other day Xander and I were talking about what he wants to be when he grows up.

Me: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Xander: A daddy who works at a firestation.

Me: So you want to be a fireman?

Xander: NO! I want to be a daddy who works at a firestation and lives there sometimes.

So, for sure he wants to be a daddy, but we're not really sure what he wants to do at the firestation yet!

Making a submarine

Xander likes to build things and to paint so I bought a bunch of model kits at Michaels for $1 a while back. The other day we built the submarine and Xander painted it by himself, with an X on top to make sure that Ash and I both knew whose submarine it was, just in case we might take it or something! The finished product, up close:

Happy Valentine's Day '08!

I hate getting flowers that die within a couple days of getting them so Ash gave me these flowers and some candy. These should last a little longer hopefully....unfortunately I am not very good at keeping plants alive. I need plants that can withstand a week or so without watering every once in a while, but these are really pretty and my favorite color too! Thanks Ash! I love you!
Xander got a stuffed animal (hedgehog? porcupine? whatever it is cute!) from grandma. We also gave him a couple of "face cars" (what Xander calls all his cars that are from the movie Cars), so he was loving it!

As usual, we went out to dinner with Xander in tow since it is impossible to find a babysitter on Valentine's Day, especially since it was Stake Temple night also so all the girls in the neighborhood were busy. We went to a Mongolian Grill and Xander was entertained the entire time watching them walk around the grill cooking everyone's food so we had fun anyway.

2008 MOMS Club Valentine Party!

On Valentine's Day we went to our MOMS Club Valentine's party. We had a potluck lunch with lots of yummy food and treats and the kids got to play games and do crafts and each kid went home with a bag (that they got to decorate) with about 40 valentines in it! It was a ton of fun! We definitely have some good party coordinators!

Xander playing bean bag toss (isn't this a cute game? You did a great job Michelle!)

Xander and his friend Aidan showing off the finished products!

Here is a quick video of Xander explaining his heart, I think he made him look like Ash's rock band character with the goatee. He has A LOT of teeth though!

Happy 32nd Birthday Ash!

Happy Birthday Ash! Yesterday Ash turned 32 and we had a fun day together as a family. We went to Red Robin for lunch because we always get a free burger on our birthdays and we can't pass that up right? Anyway, I had them sing happy birthday to him and you can tell by the look on his face that he was REALLY excited about it (yeah right)! But that is what you have to go through to get the free ice cream, which was really good by the way. So I made him pose for another picture and actually smile that time.

So later that night, we got our band together (Xander on drums, Ash on guitar and me singing) on Rock Band (which was his b-day present) and performed quite a few gigs and we have like 20,000 fans, a manager, and a totally awesome van to tour in. If you haven't played this game yet, you should definitely head over to Best Buy and try it out. After that we sang happy birthday and ate some cake. We were out of candles so I couldn't put 32 candles on for him but he did get a cute dinosaur candle...not because he is as old as dinosaurs, just because that is all I had! Anyway, we love Ash! He works so hard for our family and is a great dad!

WE LOVE YOU ASH AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Making valentine cookies

For one of our MOMS Club activities this week, we decorated valentine cookies. It was a lot of fun and of course, the kids piled the cookies high with lots of frosting and candy! Here are a few pictures of the fun:

And here are the finished products:

Thanks to Amanda for hosting this! The cookies were delicious!

A side effect of not being a morning person...

So, a couple of Sundays ago, I was sitting in Sunday school when Xander's primary teacher walked into the room. Uh, oh, I thought, what did Xander do? So she comes up to me and tries to discreetly hand me a pair of Xander's underwear! She said that they fell out of his pants, but not to worry, he still had a pair on! How embarassing! I guess that is what happens when you are half asleep while dressing your sleeping child who won't wake up for anything. Since we just barely switched to the 8am schedule at the beginning of the year, I am sure there will be more great stories like this as the year goes on. I have a feeling that I am going to show up to church one day with my shirt on backwards or inside out! Believe me, I have done it before....

Baby shower cake

Too bad it wasn't for me...maybe next time. I made the cake for my friend Holly (she is Holly #2, and is cousins with the other Holly in the previous post) who is due to have a girl anytime now.

What to do on a snow day?

So the other day when we had a snow day, we went over to my friend Holly's house and made Valentine cards. The kids had lots of fun and it got us out of the house so we didn't go crazy! Here are the cards that Xander made.
